Luăm o pauză de la toate evenimentele care se întâmplă în jurul Oscarurilor, care se vor decerna la finalul lunii februarie, și publicăm câștigătorii celui mai important festival dedicat filmelor independente – Sundance, ediția 2012.
Marele Premiu al juriului a fost obținut de către filmul de debut al regizorului Benh Zeitlin, Beasts of the Southern Wild, în timp ce la secțiunea Documentar, a câștigat The House I Live In, regizat de Eugene Jarecki.
Beasts of the Southern Wild a făcut rost și de un distribuitor cu această ocazie, fiind achiziționat de Fox Searchlight. Aceeași companie a cumpărat și drepturile pentru un alt film premiat la ediția din 2012 a Sundance: The Surrogate, regizat de John Hawkes, în timp ce Sony Pictures Classics a achiziționat documentarul Searching for Sugar Man, de Malik Bendjelloul, care a câștigat atât Premiul publicului cât și Premiul juriului.
